John Henry Fry [Parents] was born on 1 Jan 1820 in Green Co, Tennessee. He died on 21 Jan 1905 in Richland Co, Wisconsin. He married Martha C. Bible on 22 Sep 1867 in Ironton, Sauk Co, Wisconsin.
Other marriages:, Helen
John Henry Fry was married to a Susanna Ida Clary and a Helen Naomi MariWells (dates & places and order are unknown at this time; 1999).
Believe that child 1 thru 4 may have been from a previous marriage toHelen because of their ages verses her's and that there is a 4 year gapbetween child #4 and #5. Could be from his marriage to Susanna Ida Clary(if she was his first wife).
Also, he lived somewhere in Tennessee because his first 3 children wereborn there. It is believed he then moved to Indiana between 1843 and1845, as his 4th. child was born in Indiana in 1845. After this, it isbelieved that he remarried because of the 4 year gap between the nextchild's birth. It is now known (by this researcher anyway) if his firstwife died or if they got divorced. It is believed this is when he mayhave married Helen Wells. He fathered a total of 5 children in Indiana. There is another 4 yr. gap between child #8 and #9, and the fact thatchild #9 was born in Wisc. indicates that the family moved to Wisc.between 1852 and 1856. He had a total of 7 children born in Wisc. beforehe married Martha (Bible ) Smelcer. Then he fathered 3 more children byhis marriage to her. This gave him a total of 17 children that hefathered, and 2 other step-sons he raised.
He was a resident of Richland co., Wisc. at the time of his marriage toMartha (Bible) Smelcer in 1867.
He was farming in Westford, Richland co., Wisc. in 1870. Note: there wasa Henry (or Harvy) A. Smelcer, age 12, and a William N. Smelcer, age 9,living with them in 1870. Believe these to be 2 of Martha's childrenfrom her previous marriage to John Smelcer.
Estimated DOB for all children born before 1870, including Elmer, camefrom the 1870 census.
There was also several "Bible" families living nearby in the 1860 and1870 census.
He was still farming in the town of Westford, Richland co., Wisc. in the1880 census. Estimated his DOB from that census.
He also married a Martha (Bible) Smelcer after his marriage to Helen.
Let it be noted that his grand-daughter, Effie Pettit, was visiting himwhen the census of Westford, Wisc. was taken on June 2, 1880.
When June & Bill Rohr visited the Concord Cemetery, in the area of LimeRidge, WI., in Sept. 2001, they found a John Fry buried there. His gravemarker showed he died Jan. 1, 1905 at the age of 86 years and 21 days.Could this be our John?

Believe he and his family left Tennessee about 1846-48, and lived inWarren township, Clinton county, Indiana from about 1848-49 through 1853based on the birth places of their children. He & his wife (Catherine)and 9 children, were all living in Warren township, Indiana at the takingof the 1850 census on Sept. 10th. that year. He was farming there withthe aid of his family. From there, they probably moved to Wisconsin byabout 1856 to 1857 because their oldest son, Rufus, had married and hadhis first child in Wisc, being born about 1857. Both of these familieswere in the town of Westford, Richland county, Wisc. at the taking of the1860 census on July 10, 1860. George, their 2nd son, was also married bythis time and living next door to his parents. Rufus lived 4 houses awayfrom his parents. Martha Bible's future husband, John Henry Fry, lived 2houses away from Rufus. John had his present wife and their 12 childrenliving with him then.
At the taking of the 1870 census of Westford, Moses (Sr.) & Catherinewere living between their sons, Moses Jr. and Joshua. Newton and Sarahwere still living with their parents then. They also has a 6 year oldfemale named Ida Stafford living with them at the time. Believe this wasa grand-daughter through Susanna Bible's marriage.
At the taking of the census of Westford on June 1, 1880, Moses (Sr.) wasstill farming, was a widower, and Ida Stafford (then 16 yrs. old) wasstill with him. This census does state that Ida was his grand-daughter.The Moses Jr. family was still living next door.
