Attorney Was Austin Pioneer; Published Early Newspaper

John Henry Faulk, pioneer Austin attorney and former newspaper publisher died at his home at 807 West Live Oak Saturday. He was 72. Judge Faulk was at one time county attorney and about 1908 became publisher of the Austin Tribune and operated it for several years. Afterward he practiced law. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was honorary chairman of the board of stewards of the Fred Allen Memorial Methodist church and was lay leader.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Hamilton and John Henry, both of Austin; three daughters, Martha Castleberry, Mrs. Chester Koock and Miss Texana Faulk, all of Austin; two brothers; Amos Faulk of Dallas and Hayden Faulk of Thay, Ala., and two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Faulk and Mrs. Rufus Woods, both of Dallas.
The body will he at the Wilke-Manor Funeral home until 2 p.m. Sunday, when it will be taken to he Fred Allen Memorial Methodist Church, where it will lie in state until 5 p.m. to allow both races to take part in final rites because of his philanthropic work among negroes.
The funeral will begin at 5 p.m. with the Rev O. C. Crow officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Pallbearers will be E. J. Hofheinz, Judge George Dowell, Ed Smart, Paul Wagner, Dan Regan, and A. M. Barclay.

Funeral services for John Henry Faulk, 72, were held at the Fred Allen Memorial church on East Monroe street Sunday with Rev. O. C. Crow, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Oakwook cemetery.
