A Glimpse into the Past
Victorian Calling Cards

During the Victorian era, calling cards were used to communicate with friends and acquaintances. When a person "called" upon another's home, he or she would leave their card at the front door or parlor in a "card receiver," even when the host or hostess was home.

The calling cards on this page were found in the Petersen Collection. Some of the cards belonged to my ancestors and others are from unknown individuals. In any event, there may be a name here that someone will recognize.
