Francis Duty Fitch

Fitch, Frank D.(Also known as Francis Duty)
Died October 21, 1914. Buried in Griffin Cemetery. *1) Born December 3, 1843 in
Cassel County,*2) North Carolina. Survived by wife; children and grandchildren:
J. E. Fitch, Chickasha, Oklahmoa; W. F., O. K., and Travis of the Blackjack
community; Mesdames W. A. Shaw and J. H. Duty of Blackjack; Mrs. G. E. Smith of
Troup; and Miss Gertrude. He lived in the Blackjack community. He was one
of the oldest residents in northern Cherokee County. The Masonic Lodge of
Troup officiated at the service and Evangelist Isaac E. Tackett of the Church
of Christ. When he was 8, he moved to Texas with his parents. When 18 he
enlisted in the Confederate Army with his brothers, Eli and Tom in October
1861. He was in Company C, 11th Texas Infantry, Reynold's Brigade, Walker's
Division, which division gained a name during the war both for unflagging
endurance and for impetuous bravery. He arrived home May 1865. On August
12, 1869 he was married to Miss Willie Sain to which union 10 children were
born, 8 of whom survive. he was a charter member of Dixie Lodge, having
joined our order at old Knoxville in 1858, and for the following 56 years,
lived the life of a true and upright Mason.
