2. William² Newell (John¹) was born February 10, 17--.⁽²¹⁾ The month and date of William's birth were given in his Family Bible, but not the year. Goodspeed's Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Louisiana states that "[Edward and William] were of Welsh descent." He died November 18, 1844.⁽²²⁾

He married twice. William married Nancy Moody May 29, 1788.⁽²³⁾ Nancy was born about November 7, 1766 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia.⁽²⁴⁾ The month and day were given in the Nancy's birth entry in William Newell's Family Bible, but not the year. Nancy was the daughter of Thomas Moody and Mary.

She died October 29, 1840.⁽²⁵⁾ After Nancy's death, William married Ann Davis May 2, 1841 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee.⁽²⁶⁾ She died after April 7, 1845.

William served his country in the Revolutionary War. Goodspeed's gives his rank as Colonel.

William's will was probated December 1844 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee.

William Newell and Nancy Moody had the following child:
