Obituary*8 February 1945 Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada; Sudden Death of Miss E. Green

With a profound sense of regret citizens learned yesterday of the sudden passing in Charlottetown of one of our most highly respected and estimable lady residents in the person of Miss Eleanor Green. With a number of Red Cross friends from Summerside Miss Green went by train to Charlottetown on Tuesday to attend the annual Meeting of the Provincial Red Cross Society. Notwithstanding her advanced years Miss Green was quite active in mind and body and followed with keen interest every phase of the proceedings. Before retiring at the Charlottetown Hotel where the meeting was held, she told her friends that she had a "lovely day" and had particularly enjoyed the address by Miss MacEachern, remarking that she "would not have missed it for the world." In the morning as Miss Green did not put in an appearance when expected, friends went to her room in the hotel. Not receiving any reply when they knocked at the door, which was locked, an employee of the hotel was notified and brought a key. All were saddened to find that Miss Green had apparently passed away during her sleep. A doctor was summoned and pronounced life extinct.

Miss Green was a native of Summerside, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Green, eminent and respected residents of the town in their day, her father having lived to the ripe age of 100 years.
Mrs. William Mills of this town is the last surviving sister of seven and to her deepest sympathy goes out at this time. The late Miss Eleanor Green was a lady of the noblest character; kindly and friendly in her manner, she was esteemed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. A devout Christian lady, she will be especially missed in St. Mary's Anglican Church, where she was zealous in every phase of its work and activities. She was president of the Ladies Aid of the Prince County Hospital and was also an active member of the Children's Aid Society and the I.O.D.E. Miss Green was a nurse by profession. She had lived many years in the United States in her earlier life where she was superintendent in a hospital in Lebanon, Pa. After the death of her sister Margaret, following the great influenza epidemic she returned to Summerside and has since made her home here. The body of Miss Green was brought back to Summerside this morning and the funeral will take place Friday afternoon at two o'clock from St. Mary's Church to St. Eleanors Cemetery.8
