Obituary*3 October 1932 The Journal, Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada;

"During the present year Summerside has suffered heavily by the death of many of its most prominent and esteemed citizens. It is our sad duty at this time to chronicle the passing of still another in the person of Mr. William A. Stewart, whose gentle spirit passed into eternity in the early hours of October 1st. Since April last Mr. Stewart had been suffering from a malady, which up to the present has baffled the skill of the most expert students of medical science to overcome. In his passing Summerside mourns the loss of a man who ever exemplified the traits of a true gentleman and who was revered and esteemed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Mr. Stewart was born in Summerside sixty-seven years ago, the son of the late David [author's note...his father's name was Donald Ross Stewart] and Fannie Stewart. As a young man he learned the tailoring trade in Charlottetown in the establishment of the late John MacKenzie, also remembered for his fine attributes of character. After serving a couple of years with Mr. MacKenzie he went to New York where in due course he graduated from the Mitchell School of Cutting. Returning to Prince Edward Island he opened a tailoring establishment at Cape Traverse in 1885 in partnership with the late Jack Arnett. In 1887 he removed to Summerside and took a position as head cutter with the late Daniel Stewart who conducted a gentleman's furnishing and tailor shop in the old Crabbe Block. Shortly afterwards he purchased this business and has since conducted a custom tailoring business in this town. After the great fire of some years ago which destroyed his place of business with many others on Water Street he removed to quarters in the south side of The Journal Building and subsequently after some years removed to the premises on South side of Water street facing Summer street, where he continued in business until his retirement two years ago.
Mr. Stewart was married to Miss Emma Blanche McPhail, who predeceased him April 19th, 1929 [I believe this month is wrong...it was in March], and whose death was a severe blow to him. By this union he had two sons, Messers. Colin H,. and Donald O. Stewart, each residing in Summerside; there is one sister, Mrs. K. F. Ellis (Lucy) of this town, to all of whom sincere sympathy is extended in their loss.
Mr. Stewart was a member of the local lodge of Odd Fellows and had also belonged to the Knight of Pythias when that society had a lodge here. The funeral is today at 2 p.m. from the residence of his son, Mr. D. O. Stewart, 3 Notre Dame street, to the People's Cemetery will be under the auspices of the I.O.O.F.
The service will be conducted by Rev. C. St. Clair Jeans, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, of which congregation the deceased was an ernest member."; Witness=Emma Blanche McPhail, Witness=Donald Ormsby Stewart, Witness=Colin Harold Stewart, Witness=Lucy Stewart17
