A
Patriarchal BlessingGiven August 28, 1940
Sister Nettie Potter Miles, at your request and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, according to custom I place my hands upon your head as a Patriarch in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to give you a a patriarchal blessing and by the authority of the Priesthood that I hold I declare you to be of the lineage of Ephraim, a descendent and a covenanter of the great Patriarch, Abraham, who being blessed by our Father in Heaven and covenanted by Isaac and Jacob that their posterity should be called the chosen people of God from Generation to generation until after their scattering they should in the latter days be united again as a whole to fulfill the purposes of the All Mighty in the Latter Day Zion.
Dear Sister, you came to the earth for a wonderful purpose. You were blessed from the beginning of your pre-existent state where you were valiant for the truth, in standing by and laboring faithfully for the cause of righteousness and through that valiant effort you were permitted to come to the earth life through goodly parentage to enjoy the blessings that you had earned and to receive other blessings as a dutiful daughter in this day and dispensation. Our Father in Heaven sent to the earth your spirit so that you could fill the measure of your creation. The Lord is pleased with you for your kindness, your goodness of heart to your parents and to your neighbors and associates and as a reward he has given you a family of children such as few people have received. He has blessed you and is blessing you for the care, the education, and the home life you have given your family and in the days to come they will comfort you, they will bless you, they will assist you in all you undertake to do in righteousness. These blessings shall extend also to your goodly husband and together as a family. His watchful care, His blessings, His peace and contentment will be round and about you that as your family grow in years, they shall grow in love, in understanding of the forces of live and the knowledge that God lives; their testimony shall be of the love, of the care and sacrifice of their father and their mother for them from infancy until the time shall come when, in the wisdom of our Heavenly Father, they may be called home. Not alone on this earth are good and wise people needed, but a greater work awaits some of them in the world we call hereafter; greater activity is being pursued on the other side than on this die of life.
Remember that the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away and that your prayers shall be "Amen to that" in sickness that you have passed through the All Mighty has given was for a blessing to keep your heart and your mind in tune to strengthen you in faith and courage to withstand, not only ordeals of the past and of the present, but to strengthen you in body and in mind for the future.
Dear Sister, I bless you with wisdom in the direction of your home and your husband and your family and that added health and strength of body and of mind shall come to you, and from this day forth that no evil influence or powers shall turn you from the path of rectitude and right as a mother in Israel. I bless you with every blessing that it is my duty to bestow upon you at this time. Blessings of wisdom, that great gift of discernment of right and wrong and evil and righteousness shall be yours today and forever more.
Dear Sister, by the power of the priesthood which I hold I seal you up to eternal life to come forth with the redeemed of God’s children in the first resurrection to receive the rewards and the blessings that you earned in your pre-existent state and those things that as a mother you have earned here on this earth. I do it in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen.
