Ingevert was born in Hellevert (Hellevad), in Schleswig, Denmark. (Schleswig-Holstein was Prussian-controlled from 1864 until the Northern part of Schleswig was given back to Denmark in 1919.) His place on the family tree can be seen at the following link to my family tree. Ingevert came to the Victorian gold rush on the ship 'Cimber' arriving from the port of London on 26 September 1858 and was a gold miner at Campbells Creek, Castlemaine.
Maria, who was a maidservant, was staying at Fryer's Creek, Castlemaine, (probably with her sister Marie Kristine Jespersen) after coming from Copenhagen, Denmark. Ingevert and Maria may have met in Castlemaine, where they married on 7 December 1867, in St James Church, according to the rites of the Lutheran Church. Maria was 24 and Ingevert was 37.
Ingevert gave up mining and became a farmer. They moved to the Muckleford district (where there was originally a gold mine).
Maria died on 16 January 1887 aged 45 years at Forest Creek, Castlemaine. Edward was only six, Peter eight, Hannah eleven, and James eighteen.
Ingevert married Mary Dinah Fearon in 1893. Mary was born in Cumberland, England and already had children in Victoria. They did not have any more children.
Ingevert died at Bull Street, Castlemaine, aged 79, because of heart failure during an operation on a malignant ear. Ingevert was buried at the Muckleford cemetery, according to Methodist rites. His (step?) son-in-law, R.J. Turville of 18 Hunter Street, West Brunswick was the informant. Mary, his second wife, was buried next to him on 28 May 1912. (The headstone is firstly in memory of Maria, then Ingevert, then Mary.)
Note: Ingevert used "Ingevert" for all his official records except "Ingvord" for the baptism of his son Edward into the Danish Lutheran church. I am assuming that Ingevert is the Germanic form of Ingvord.
