Notes:

Vermandois: A region and former territory of France, in Picardy. It lay NE of Paris, and is comprised in the modern departments of Aisne and Somme. In the Middle Ages a countship, it was united to France by Philip II in 1183, but was ceded to Burgundy by the treaty of Arras in 1435, and on the death (1477) of Charles the Bold was taken by Louis XI of France. [NCCN]

This lineage begins with Pepin II, a great grandson of Charlemagne, who is called de Vermandois by some, although it was his son, Herbert I, who was the first count de Vermandois.

The line proceeds through the male descendants until the title devolved upon a Capet, Hugh Magnus de Crépi, son of King Henri I Capet, who married Adelaide, daughter and heiress of Cte Herbert IV de Vermandois. Their male descendants adopted the de Vermandois appellation and held the countship for several more generations.
