have been able to enter the
Daughters Of The American Revolution though his military records. In his Claim for
pension he states: "The first winter we lay at Valley Forge in the state of Penn.
I was at the Battle of Monmouth under General Lee on 28th June 1778. We
marched to Guilford Court House. I was in the heat of that battle.
My Captain was killed and Benj. Rice succeeded his. I was promoted to ensign"

Note: Thomas F. Mitchell fought in the Mexican American War Enlisted

till Nov 19, 1848 Also fought with Captain "Big Foot"
Wallace 5th Volunteer Mounted Calvary in 1850 as a Texas Ranger. He settled in Soledad
Canyon, California in 1860, after traveling around the Horn in 1852. Thomas Mitchell
raised cattle, thoroughbred trotting horses and was at one time the largest shipper of honey
in Los Angeles County shipping two freight car loads annually. The first home of Thomas
and Martha Mitchell also became the first school in the valley. Later they gave land
to the school district to form a school district for all the children coming to the Valley.
