Obituary Of Benjamin McCrossen Perkins

The following Obituary of My Grandfather was given to me by Ruth Mills.

BENJAMIN M. PERKINS

June 17, 1894 ~ October 30, 1918

Benjamin M. Perkins, son of William N. and Dora L. Perkins (nee McCrossen), of Ada, died in his home in Grand Rapids, Mich., Oct. 30, 1918. Ben (as we all lovingly called him) was born in Grand Rapids, June 17, 1894, and grew to manhood in Ada, and after finishing High school and a correspondence course, and at his death was in the employ of Wilmarth & Morman, Grand Rapids, where his enemy and work gave promise of a successful business career.

He was married to Miss Alice Pelan on the 8th of Jan, 1917, and they started to make them a home in Grand Rapids, but the Grim Reaper that has gathered in so many of the brightest and best of our young men and women in the last few weeks, claimed Ben also. He will be missed not only in the home where he was the only child and son, but in the whole town, for Ben always had a cheery word and smile for everyone and a ready and willing hand for any good cause, and our hearts go out in deepest sympathy to the bereaved young wife with her babe, also to the father and mother who have laid away their only child and son.

Dear Bennie, thou has left us
And thy form we cannot see,
Yet we know thy spirit’s waiting
Where the many mansions be.
In our home a place is vacant
And we see an empty chair.
Our hearts with grief are breaking
For we miss our Bennie there.
Thy life was but a short one.
Yet we say "God's will be done."
