Notes:
Samuel went to Nottingham in 1756 as an apprentice to James Brown, hatter, and from there to Philadelphia. In 1764 he returned to Concord and established himself in business. Over the next several years, he purchased a fair amount of property in the area: in 1774, he had 8 acres, by 1777, his holding had increased to 30 acres, and by 1787, he had a total of 78 acres. He was appointed overseer of the Concord meeting in 1774 and held that position until 1871. He served as an elder of the Meeting from 1775 until 1787 and was recommended as a Minister in 1788, a position he held the rest of his life, nearly 30 years. Samuel resided in what was then called 'Concord Hill' now known as Concordville. After his death in 1818, his widow moved to Thornbury. Both are buried at Concord Meeting Burial Ground.
