Hall

I often joke with people that the Halls are third in size only the Smiths and the Joneses. In my home town of Stillwater, Oklahoma, there is another family of Halls that were related to us at all (as far as we know). When I moved to Tallahassee, Florida four years ago I moved to a little place in the woods on Lake Hall road. Guess which body of water it was near. There were only about six houses on this winding road. Only a quarter of a mile futher down the way, another family of Halls made their home.

Page after page of Halls can be found in any given modern phone book. Just imagine the task of sorting out all the Halls that have lived in the many countries of the world. Because of this plethora of Halls, I focus my research on the line of Halls responsible for bringing me into this world. (How egotistical, right?)

Currently, I've traced my Halls back to the town of Wolford, in Warwickshire, England (ca. 1750). From there they came to the US through New York (ca. 1790), settling in Utica for a time. The next generations followed the expanding western frontier to homesteads in Russell Township, Ohio to Pawnee Rock, Kansas. My great-great grandfather, James Hall, together with his brothers, participated in the Cherokee Strip Land Run (1893). They settled near what would become Isabella, Oklahoma in Major County. In 1930 my grandfather, James Edsel Hall, moved to the present family farm, just outside of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Those are the broad strokes. My business is to fill in the details. If you think you might have some information and would like to compare notes, don't hesitate to contact me.
