Ora Steed Larsen
1914 - 2005
ST. GEORGE - Services for Ora Steed Larsen of St. George, Utah and formerly of
Salem, Idaho will be held Friday August 12 at 11 a.m. in the St. George LDS
12th Ward Church at 449 S. 300 East, St. George, Utah, with Bishop Dougles
Rogers conducting. Ora died Saturday, August 6 at her home in St. George at 90
years of age. Ora was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Syracuse, Utah to Walter and
Alice Steed. She is the youngest of seven children. The family included two
girls and five boys.
She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended the
University of Utah and Henager's Business College.
She married Gerald Larsen Nov. 22, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They
lived and farmed in Salem, Idaho, where they raised their eight children.
She served a full time mission to the Northern States Mission as a young lady
and in 1976 served an 18 month mission with her husband to Rapid City, South
Dakota. She has served faithfully in all the organizations of the church
including ward Relief Society President. While Relief Society President the
ladies in the ward compiled and had printed a cookbook that sold over 2,000
After their mission to South Dakota, Gerald and Ora moved to St. George, Utah
and bought a home close to the temple. They enjoyed working in the temple and
doing temple work. Her husband, Gerald died in 1983. Ora continued until the
time of her death as a very faithful temple attendee. Ora has served as a Tour
Guide for the Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers Museum in St. George, Utah for
Gerald and Ora enjoyed taking trips together. Their favorite was to Israel.
Ora was able to send many of her family members on trips to Israel, Nauvoo,
Church and American History tours.
Surviving are her sons: Winston (Deon) Larsen of Salem, Idaho, Blaine (Connie)
Larsen of Hamer, Idaho, Gary Larsen of St. George, Utah and Richard (Peggy)
Larsen of Salem, Idaho. Her daughters: Dorothy (Frank) Bernhoft of Lodi,
California, Ruth (Don) Cook of American Fork, Utah, Barbara (Van) Johnson of
Evanston, Wyoming and son in law Joe Busico of Tooele, Utah. Ora has 26
grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Gerald and a daughter, Maurine.
Friends may come to the viewing Thursday evening, August 11 from 6:30 p.m. to
8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Funeral Mortuary, 288 West, St. George Blvd., St.
George, Utah and Friday morning, August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at
the 12th Ward Church. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13 at the
Rexburg, Idaho Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435)673-4221.
