GRANDY, Dr. Thomas Boyde (of Ottawa, Ontario) Died...August 12, 2006 while on vacation in Wesleyville, Newfoundland, aged 67 years. Husband of Patricia Hann, father of Bonnie and Alan, father-in-law of Jenny, devoted grandfather of Julianne (12) and Carolyn (10) of Bonnie, and Reese (7) and Rowan (3) of Alan and Jenny, and faithful caregiver to Freddie dog (16). Tom was a much loved son-in-law of Ruth and the late Lloyd Hann of Wesleyville Tom was the son of the late Rev. Samuel and Millicent Grandy of Garnish, Newfoundland and was the eldest of eight brothers and sisters, with whom he had just spent four days at a family reunion in Garnish. He will be greatly missed by sisters Goldwyn King (Clayton) of Bell Island, the Rev. Eliza Potter of Pouch Cove, Joy Sinclair (John William) of Nova Scotia and brothers the Rev. Dr. Waldo (Lois) of Nova Scotia, Larry (Beverley) of Topsail, Carl (Fern) of Nova Scotia and Dr. Elwood (Linda) of Nova Scotia....In the 1970's he served as Director of Communications for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador....A service of remembrance was held at Jubilee United Church, Wesleyville, Newfoundland on August 18, 2006. Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Reid and Mina Reid (Sutherland) and the wife of the late J. Wesley Gillespie. She is also predeceased by her grandson Christopher Chartrand, sister Jean Clark (late Jimmy), great nephew Chuck Alger and infant brother Charles. She is survived by her daughters Margaret Chartrand (John), Ottawa, and Janet Gillespie (Stan Dillabough), Welland and son David (Linda), Sudbury; granddaughters Dawn Chartrand (Dwayne Hall), Toronto, Kathryn Gillespie (Bill Richer), Sudbury, and Lara Gillespie, Ottawa; grandsons Paul Gillespie (Natalie Bouchard), Toronto, and Stephen Gillespie, Ottawa. HORWOOD, Robert Frederick...in Ottawa on December 14, 2005 at the age of 91. Born in Newfoundland, Bob studied architecture at University of Liverpool then worked for a time in the family's Horwood Lumber Company before practicing architecture in St. John's until 1976...He was happily married to Pamela Pinsent for 51 years, until she passed away in 1999..Bob will be greatly missed by his three sons and their spouses (Adrian and Jan, Rob and Suzanne, Ian and Kim), his grandchildren (Stephanie and husband Jay, Debbie, Genevieve, Frederique, Julien, Matthew and Leslie), sisters-in-law May (Temple) Horwood and Reynette (Pinsent) Hall and their families, and his many friends especially in St. John's and Ottawa, where he has resided since 1981. Newfoundland and Labrador's second premier passed away on July 10th, 2005 at hospital in Perth, Ontario, at the age of 72, after a battle with cancer that never conquered his spirit or zest for life. Premier from 1972 to 1979, Frank was devoted to the province and its people. Dr. Bruce was born in Long Harbour, NFLD, February 16th, 1929 and was a graduate of Memorial, Dalhousie and the University of Alberta. Having served 24 years in the military and 17 years in private practice, he retired to Ottawa in 1996....survived by his wife Sophia; his sons James (Judy), Joffre (Beth), Joseph (Mary); daughters Susan (Joseph) and Anne; his grandchildren Jake, Leslie, Lori, Thomas, Hunter, and Sydney. REILLY, John Joseph (1922-2004) A life of dedication to others has come to an end after almost 82 years, with the passing of John Joseph Reilly on Wednesday, June 16 at the Ottawa General Hospital...Born September 16, 1922 in Montreal, John was the only child of John Joseph Reilly and Gertrude Tooker...He also spent time in Newfoundland; installing radars and falling in love with the people and the land. After the War, John remained in the service of his country in the air force for over 30 years and he dedicated himself to the care of his parents. John's care of his ailing father enabled him to meet and fall in love with a nurse named Lena Turpin - a Newfoundlander living in Montreal. A whirlwind romance included dates walking up the stairs of St. Joseph's Oratory on their knees and sleeping through South Pacific. On April 30, 1960, John married Lena and what quickly followed was a succession of five children and a series of moves to Gander, Sydney, Kapuskasing, North Bay and finally to Ottawa in 1978...
