Last Will and Testament of Paulus Friedt


Paulus Friedt left a will on 29 January 1742/43.

Paulus FREIDT or FREED immigrated to Pennsylvania with his wife and her family in 1710. He was the brother of my probable 6 great-grandfather. The source of his will is:
Paul Freds will (1743), Philadelphia Will Book G: 42-43, no. 18, City Archives, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Microfilm 0021723, Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah. the microfilm was filmed in the negative.

The transcript of the Will read:
Be it known unto all whom it may Concern that I Paul Fredd Sen. of the Township of Skepack & Perkyomi in the County of Philadelphia Yeoman being Sick and weak of Body Considering the ffraihity of Life & having my Memory & Understanding Sound & perfect Do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament the twenty ninth Day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & forty two/3 In the following manner & form Vizt: Imprimis I will that all my Just Debts which I shall owe at the Time of my Decease together with my Funeral Charges be duly Observ'd and paid by my Executor herein named.---
I Give & bequeath unto my Dear and well beloved Wife Elizabeth Fredd in liue of her Thirds or Dower out of my Estate Real and Personal the Sum of eight Pounds Yearly and every Year for & during the Time she remains my widow unmarried and payable to her by my Son in Law Jacob Gaeter his Heirs Executors Adminiftators every quarter of a Year during the said Time or otherwise as they shall agree. And in Case my said Wife doth Marry she shall have no more than Five Pounds Money as aforesaid paid her yearly during her Natural Life by my said Son in Law Jacob Gaeter or his, in manner aforesaid. I also give unto my said Wife during her Widowhood the use and priviledge of my Stove and Stove Room. And my Son in Law shall provide firewood for her. I also give and bequeath unto my said Wife A Flaxen Spinning Wheel And Likewise my Bedd, BeddStead with all the Bedding thereunto belonging to it interily at her Disposeing. All which said Legacies shall commence at the Day of my Decease.
I Give and Devise unto my Son in Law Jacob Graeter All my Plantation and Tract of Land situate in the Township of Skepack and Perkiomy Containing by Estimation one hundred & twenty two Acres together also with all and singular the Rights Privileges Appeartenances & Improvemts whatsoever thereon or thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining To Hold to him my said Son in Law his Heirs and Assigns for Ever. It is my Will and I desire the same to be faithfully performed & fulfilled that my said Son in Law Jacob Gaeter shall and will immediately after my Decease Secure the Sum of Fifty Pounds Lawful Money of Pennsylva. to be paid by him his Heirs Executors Adminds. at such Time & Times and to such Person or Persons and in such manner as my Daughter Mary his now Wife shall think fit which sd. Sum of Fifty Pounds shall remain & continue for the use thereby directed.----
I Give and bequeath unto my said Son in Law All the remaining part of my Personal Estate and whatsoever I am the proper owner of or have right unto in or without the Province of Pennsylvania And I do by these Presents likewise Constitute and appoint my said Son in Law Jacob Gaeter to be my whole and sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament finally Revoking and Disannulling all former Wills Testaments Legacies and Executors by one or in any manner of Ways before this Time named Willed & bequeathed. Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament.
In Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal Dated the Day and Year first above written----

Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Paul Fredd Senr. as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of Us the Subscribers----

Salford the first Day of May 1743 ther personally appeared Peter Kolb and Robert Jones two of the Witnefses to the within written Will and on their Affirmation respectfully did declare the same Will to be his Last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound Mind Memory & Understanding ----Coram. Jacob Reiff by Authority from Pet. Evans Reg. Genl.---

Be it Remembered on the 6th May 1743 the Last Will and Testament of Paul Fredd deceased was proved in due form of Law & probat & Letters Testamentary were granted to Jacob Gaeter the Executor therein named He having first Solemnly Affirmed (before the said Jacob Reiff Authorized as Aforesaid) well and truly to Administer the said Decedents Estate And bring in an Inventory thereof into the Register Generals Office at Philada. on or before the 6th Day of June next. And also render a true and Just Accompte when thereunto Lawfully required. Given under the Seal of the said Office----
