UFT Role Definations


These are the definations of the U.K. specific events that are included in Ultimate Family Tree:

Anecdote: Event for which only the event text appears on reports.
Bastardy Bond UK: The execution of a document by an ecclesiastical court that requires one or both parents of an illegitimate child to make payments for any expenses incurred by the parish for the support of the child.
Census UK 1841: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1841.
Census UK 1851: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1851.
Census UK 1861: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1861.
Census UK 1871: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1871.
Census UK 1881: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1881.
Census UK 1891: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1891.
Census UK 1901: The event of a governmental enumeration of the population which took place in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in 1901.
Chancery Charter Rolls: The recording of grants of land or privileges in perpetuity by the Crown.
Chancery Close Rolls: The recording of royal instructions to officials and others and of private deeds.
Chancery Fine Rolls: The recording of instructions, appointment of officers, and other matters of financial interest to the Crown.
Chancery Patent Rolls: A listing of persons granted land, appointed to office, pardoned or involved in some other matter requiring public authentication.
Churchwarden's Accounts: The listing of a person who paid or received money for upkeep of buildings and purchasing of supplies, payment of church taxes, and/or who was involved in parish business.
Deportation UK: The deportation of a convict or other undesirable persons from England to one of its colonies.
Manorial Court Rolls: A listing of persons involved in events such as land transactions within the manor, minor lawsuits between tenants, and minor breaches of the peace.
Manorial Hearth Tax: The payment of a tax on domestic hearths collected twice yearly between 1662 and 1689.
Manorial Inquisition Post Mortem: An inquiry conducted by a jury to establish what lands a deceased person had held directly from the Crown and to identify all heirs.
Manorial Lay Subsidy: The listing of individuals paying a tax to the monarch on crops and stock.
Manorial Rentals and Surveys: A listing of persons involved in renting the holdings of a Manor.
Military Casualty Return UK: The listing of a member of the military who became a casualty of war in the service of Great Britain.
Rate Book Assessment: The assessment and amount a church member had to pay for the upkeep of the poor in the parish.
Recusancy UK: An individual's refusal to attend services of the Church of England.
Removal Order UK: An order issued by churchwardens requiring a person or family who arrived in the parish without a settlement certificate to leave their new parish.
Settlement UK: An order issued by churchwardens giving a person permission to leave their local parish and settle in another.
