Mary Jane(Mollie) Cushen , who, in 1880 was married in Funkstown by Rev D. F. Stauffer to George C. Schamel, a Dunkard farmer and postmaster in St James (Lydia), MD. George was born 20 August 1856, and owned the Conococheague Farm in the Downsville District. Mr. Schamel's paternal grandfather came from Germany. George and Mollie had eight children: (a) George, Jr, who ran a grocery store in St James and continued the family farm with his wife Isabel and the postmaster appointment; (b) Charles Henry, also a farmer in St James; (c) Nona, who married William Miller, a Williamsport contractor; (d) Charlotte; (e) Martha, who married a Rev Miller; (f) Frances, who married a Mr. Murray; (g) Mary, who married James Spedden, a Hagerstown city employee and secretary of the First Brethren Church. Jim Spedden witnessed Robert Garver Cushen's signing of his last will and testament and filed the papers for Robert's widow at the courthouse. Jim and Mary had a daughter. Madeleine, who married a Mr. Potterfield; and (h) Robert, who married Maud Adams and lived in Pittsburgh, PA.
