Joseph Cushing lived in Putney almost all his life. He was first a blacksmith and afterwards a farmer for many years. Later he and his wife went and lived with their son, Samuel A. Cushing, in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He is probably the Joseph Cushing (Jr.) who was in the Brattleboro Light Infantry as a private at various times between 1813 and 1817.
