Arthur Thompson Cushing
Arthur Thompson Cushing was educated in public schools in Kenilworth, Ontario and attended Essex High School and Hamilton Business College. The 1891 Alberta Census lists him as 22 years of age and a bookkeeper for W.H.Cushing Millwork in Calgary, where he remained for five years before returning east to Victoria University in Toronto where he received his B.A. degree in 1898. Then in 1900 he returned west to Edmonton to manage his brother's lumber business (Cushing Brothers) there. He is listed in the 1901 Alberta Census as 31 years of age and living in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1902 he married Annie Nelson of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was elected Alderman for the City of Edmonton 1903/04. He also ran for Mayor of Edmonton in 1905, but lost to Charles May 627 votes to 355. In 1911 he built a new factory and became the Secretary-Treasurer of Cushing Brother's Company Limited in Edmonton prior to his death on 26 March 1944 in Vancouver B.C. He also served as a Public School Board trustee; President of the Board of Trade; and President of the Edmonton Hospital.
Arthur and Annie retired to West Vancouver B.C. where they died.

CUSHING PASSED AWAY MARCH 25, 1944, in St. Paul Hospital; Arthur Thompson Cushing of 2612 W. 2nd Ave., formerly of Edmonton, Alberta, in his 76th year. Survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. S. A. Bothwell, Bourlamagne, Que., Jean, at home; three sons, Lieut. Earl and Lieut. Paul, with the Canadian Forestry Corps, overseas, and Alan in Marysville, B. C.; a brother, Mr. Alfred Bruce Cushing, of this city. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 28, at 2:30 p.m., in Nunn & Thompson's chapel, 10th and Cambie St., Rev. R. W. Hardy officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. No flowers, by request.
