Valuation Revision Books
After Griffith's primary valuation was completed,
about 1852 in Co. Carlow, copies of the valuation books were updated periodically to reflect current landholders and tenants. These books, called Valuation Revision Books, were kept up to date by
lining out the original entry and writing in the new information
above it. On occasion, other notations were also included. Years that changes
took place were also noted in the far right column. The following are transcriptions
from the Valuation Revision Books, through about 1900, although some continue on to later
dates. Often these revisions help to identify family members. Wives, sons or
other relatives usually took over tenancy after the death or migration of the
original occupant, and the entries can give clues to family members and
relationships. The Revision Books are available on microfilm from the LDS Family
History Library, and are listed by Townland, grouped by Barony and Civil Parish.
The extracts below are listed alphabetically, first by Civil Parish, then by
Townland within each parish. The date of each Revision was not always easily identifiable, and the dates used
for some of the revisions are the best estimate based on the documents
themselves. Any contributions of this information from other townlands would be
most welcome.
