Index to Ireland Registry of Deeds
Transcripts of Memorials, Deeds, Conveyances and Wills
1708-1929
These indexes are taken from microfilm of records in the Registry of Deeds office in Dublin. A memorial in legal terms was the preservation or recording of an event, and specifically an abstract of the particulars of a deed for registration. A conveyance was a document relating to the transfer of property.
These deeds also included leaseholds in addition to ownership, and sometimes
wills and administrations were also recorded with the deeds. The indexes below are those for
Townlands; indexes by Grantor name are also available. The original index was handwritten in ledger books, and include the Townland name(s), Grantor, Grantee, and the book, page and deed number. We have added here the date and the LDS FHL Film number, as taken from the on-line LDS Family History Library catalog. We will continue to add to this index and will also be transcribing some of the actual memorials and deeds. Contributions of any of this material that you may already have would be most welcome.
Note that there are multiple names for some Townlands. This is the way it was
listed in the original index. One result of Griffith's valuation was to
standardize the Townland names, and multiple names were no longer used
after the date of the valuation in the area.
