Won awards for writing

THE Irish National Teachers Organisation/ EBS handwriting competition attracted a large number of entries from schools around the county.

The results were announced at a special awards ceremony at the Seven Oaks Hotel on Wednesday, March 22, attended by representatives from the participating schools.

In the Infants category Aoife Kavanagh from Askea Girls National School took first place while in the First and Second Classes category the winner was Roisin O'Rourke from Scoil Muire Gan Smal.

The Third and Fourth Classes winner was Mary Barrett, Bennekerry National School while Fifth and Sixth Classes category winner was Siofra Moriarty from Askea Girls NS.

The overall list if winners were as follows: Category 1 (Infants) First Aoife Kavanagh, Askea Girls NS, Second Julie Cummins, Ballon NS and third Amy Sunderland, Scoil Muire Gan Smal, Carlow. Category 2 (First and Second Classes) First Roisin O'Rourke, Scoil Muire Gan Smal, second Mary Doyle, Scoil Moling, Glynn, St. Mullins, third Evan Brennan, Bishop Foley National School, Carlow. Category 3 (Third and Fourth Classes) First Mary Barrett, Bennekerry NS, Second Nicola Caldbeck, St. Columba's NS, Tullow and third John Brennan, Ballon NS. Category 4 (Fifth and Sixth Classes) First Siofra Moriarty, Askea Girls NS, second Orla Fitzgerald, Scoil Muire Gan Smal, Carlow and third Emma Rothwell, St. Columba's NS, Tullow.

In the Special Education Category there were three prizes of equal merit which went to Michael Hogan, David Kelly and Kevin McEvoy, all students of St. Lazarian's School, Carlow.
