A man who refused to get out of his car
after it was seized by gardaí and later refused to leave the public
area of the garda station, had a case against him adjourned at the May 5
sitting of Carlow District Court.
Dean Cummins,
whose address was given as 67 Harelawn Park, Clondalkin, Dublin 22,
pleaded to using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at Athy
road, Carlow on April 4. He also pleaded to driving without insurance at
Barnhill, Castledermot, on the same date.
Garda Donal Raftery told the court that
he stopped the defendant driving a car at Barnhill who admitted driving
without insurance.
Witness seized the car but back at Carlow
garda station the defendant refused to get out of the vehicle and later
refused to leave the public area in the station, where he kept on
ringing the bell in the public office. He also threatened a number of
gardaí on duty.
Defending solicitor Brendan O'Flaherty
said his client was very upset at the time of the incident. Earlier that
night he had just broken up with his girlfriend who was pregnant. He had
asked to stay overnight in the car but was not given that option which
resulted in him reacting badly and becoming abusive to the gardai.
Judge Mary Martin remanded the defendant
on his own bail to the November 20 sitting pending a probation officer's
report.
