Priests Are on the Move

PRIESTS across the diocese will be on the move over the coming days following an announcement this week by the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, Dr. Laurence Ryan.

Monsignor Coonan will take up the position of CC Geashill and will be succeeded in Portlaoise by Fr. John Byrne, Adm. Carlow. The new administrator of Carlow parish will be Fr. Gerard Ahern, Chaplain to the Institute of Technology, Carlow.

These changes result in further knock on effects throughout the dioceses with Fr. Thomas Dooley, CC Geashill, now CC Carbury and Fr. Thomas O'Byrne, CC Portlaoise, now CC Portarlington.

Fr. Brendan Howard, CC Carlow, has been appointed CC Myshall, Fr. Michael Kane, St Patrick's Missionary Society, is now CC Kildare. Fr. John Cummins, DD, has been nominated for appointment as Chaplain to Institute of Technology Carlow.

All of these appointments come into effect from September 1, 2000.
