Ploughing tests a huge success
LAST week's Carlow Ploughing Championships, which were held on the lands of Noel Aughney in Dunleckney, Bagenalstown proved to be a huge success.
The weather was very favourable for ploughing conditions and a large number of competitors from more than 13 counties, north and south took part.
The standard of work was very high and the judges had a difficulty job naming the winners.
The presentation of prizes was made at a reception in the Presentation De la Salle, Bagenalstown after the event.
The winners in the senior category were: 1st Eamon Tracey, Carlow; 2nd John Tracey, Carlow.
2nd Senior: 1st Trevor Caleb, Offaly; 2nd T. Donnelly, Wexford.
Under-28: 1st Philip Murphy, Waterford; 2nd Ken Doyle, Carlow.
Under-21: 1st M. Kehoe, Wexford; 2nd Seán Tracey, Carlow.
3 Furrows: 1st Pat Furlong, Wexford; 2nd Liam Cassin, Kilkenny.
Senior Reversible: 1st John Whelan, Wexford; 2nd Dan Donnelly, Wexford.
Under-28 Reversible: 1st Garry Ireland, Kilkenny; 2nd James Kelly, Tipperary.
Vintage Trailer: 1st Bertie Murray, Carlow; 2nd Philip Jackman, Wexford.
2 Furrow Vintage: 1st Noel Shanahan, Wexford; 2nd Michael Shanahan, Wexford.
1 Furrow Vintage: 1st Bruno McCormick, Meath; 2nd Noel
Cummins, Kildare.
Novice: Seán Tracey, Carlow.
