ROBERT FLEMING CULBERT AND MATILDA B. VAN HORN CULBERT

Robert Fleming CULBERT; (b. 2 Dec 1844, Nether Providence Twp., Delaware Co., Pennsylvania 1) was the sixth child of Moses and Jane FLEMING CULBERT. Robert married Tillie VAN HORN on 15 June 1875 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 2 Tillie VAN HORN; (b. 17 Oct 1843, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 5) was the second of eleven children of Benjamin and Eliza BOYER VAN HORN. 2
They had four children:

6.3. William Eves CULBERT; (b. 31 Dec 1879; d. 1 Sep 1948); m. Irene Dorothea GILBERT. 2
6.4. Gertrude V. CULBERT; (b. 29 Oct 1881); m. Horatio Thomas BOURNE. 2
Robert and Tillie managed the Culbert family farm in Delaware County, and Robert was listed as a farmer in a Chester Twp. list of business people.
In the 1880 census, the family is found living in the Jane CULBERT household in Chester Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Robert is listed as a farmer, Matilda is keeping house, and Warren and William are at home. Also in the household are Frank THOMPSON, age 25, a farm laborer, George CLEGG, age 15, a laborer, and Lizzie ALLISON, age 12, a domestic servant. George CLEGG might be realted to Martha CLEGG CULBERT, wife of Thomas CULBERT, a son of Jane CULBERT. 13
At the death of Jane FLEMING CULBERT in 1882, the Culbert family farm in Nether Providence Township was sold. In 1885, Robert was listed as a plumber, gas and steamfitter working at 6 West Third Street, Chester, and living in North Chester. 11 At some later date, Robert and Tillie moved to Philadelphia, where Robert opened a milk store at 523 Susquehanna Avenue. 7 Robert operated this store at least through 1901. 8
From 1910 to 1915 this family was living at 636 Allegheny Avenue, Philadelphia. 9 10
Tillie suffered from chronic nephritis for several years. 5 She died at age 71 of cerebral apoplexy on 26 Nov 1914. 5 She was buried on 30 Nov 1914 5
in Lot 1032, Rockland Section, West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia. The cemetery and gravestone can be seen here. Her last address was 636 W. Allegheny Ave., [43rd Ward] Philadelphia. 5
Robert died at the age of 75 from capillary bronchitis on 12 Dec 1919. 6
He was buried alongside Tillie on 15 Dec 1919. 6
At his death he lived at 3942 North 7th Street, [43rd Ward] Philadelphia. 6
