3. Margaret Campbell CULBERT was born on 31 May 1837 in Nether Providence Twp., Delaware County, Pennsylvania, the third child of Moses and Jane FLEMING CULBERT. 1 Thomas B. MACE was born in 1831, the son of Thomas and Sidney BALDWIN MACE. 13 19 Thomas and Margaret married 2 Apr 1857. 1 They had the following children:
On an 1870 map 5 is shown a 12-1/2 acre property owned by Thomas. It is located in what is now called Brookhaven Boro on the south side of Brookhaven Road adjoining the west bank of Ridley Creek. No house is shown. A newspaper notice dated 2 Dec 1870 stated that a chimney fire the week before had destroyed the MACE family home at Sneath's Corner, now being the corner of Brookhaven and Edgmont Roads in Brookhaven Boro, Chester Twp., Delaware County. The notice also said that Thomas had insurance of $1,500 on the house and
personal property. 6
This property is also shown on an 1875 map of Chester Township, with a building located in the southwest corner along Brookhaven Road. 7 The building was probably the family's rebuilt home.
In the 1880 census for Chester Township, Thomas was a farmer, living at home with his wife and 8 children. Also living there was his widowed mother, Sidney. 19
Thomas served three one-year terms as Chester Township borough school district director in 1874, 1880, and 1883. 8
Margaret died in 1894 and Thomas died in 1899. They are buried in the Middletown Presbyterian Church cemetery. 9 Their gravestones can be seen here: Mace Gravestones
