[Note: Joseph probably understated his age in 1841 as 39 because there was a limit of 40 years for assisted immigrants. His wife was probably 45 at the time (though she stated it as 28). Shipping papers indicate they were brought out by A.B. Smith Esq., and were Protestants. At the time this shipping record was made, Kathy CUTHBERT and Rebecca WILLIAMS were widows.] Joseph and Kathy became orchardists (fruit growers) at Dural and Castle Hill. They had:

"One of the oldest residents of Galston, Mrs Catherine Waddell, died at her residence there on Thursday, at the age of 81 years. She was the wife of that sturdy pioneer of the Hawkesbury forest, Mr. William Waddell, who it may be mentioned, had been a reader of the Argus from the first issue. They leave a large family of good men and women. The interment of the remains of the fine old lady will take place at the Wesleyan Cemetery Dural, today."
