Marcus Haywood Goodwin
ca.1852 - 1897

I'm looking for the parents and siblings of Marcus H Goodwin. Marcus married Pauline Marietta Halpain ca.1876 (based on first child born and Census 1880 Stone County, Arkansas in the Richwoods Township located approx. 8 mi so of Mountain View. There are only two sons of Marcus who descend from this line. I am the only Goodwin descendant from Elbert Samuel left to tell the tale. Fletcher Calloway Goodwin has sons that carry the Goodwin name from his side. William Fred Goodwin married but soon divorced and had no children. Marcus' daughters married Stewart, Jefferies and Prince. Joseph Anderson Stewart married Arminnia Edith Goodwin, John Wesley Jeffries married Isalina Matilda Goodwin, Cornelius W Prince married Ora B Goodwin and Houston Harrison Prince married Anna Belle Goodwin. These would be the descendants that may just have the history of Marcus Goodwin. It has been lost and forgotten with the Goodwin Boys. So all you Stewart, Jeffries and Princes out there, we are interested in your grandmother's father. To the next generation, this would be your greatgrandmother's father. Pauline Marietta Halpain's father is John B Halpain who married Lydia S Brown. John is another one of my search projects. It is possible his descendants might know of the Goodwin boy that married Marietta. The children of John and Lydia Halpain are:

Lydia's parents are Samuel and Delilah Bickle Brown. Samuel built a house that is registered with the National Historic Buildings near Mountain View, Arkansas. Not much else is known about him and my search was cut short by one, not having enough information and two, the amount of Brown Names out there. Delilah's father is Michael Bickle who married a Wietzel and her father married a Metz. You can see more of these folks, however it is somebody else's research and not mine.

Marcus H Goodwin is buried in the Case Cemetery located on the Luber Road in East Richwoods off Hwy 9 toward Shirley, Arkansas. There are quite a few family members interred here including Bickle, Prince, Jeffery, Stewart, Brewer, and others.

Franklin Napolean Ivie is the father of Sarah Josephine who married Elbert Samuel Goodwin. There are 11 children of Franklin and Matilda Sessions Tompkins Ivie. The only descendants of Sarah and Elbert are the children of my father, Charles Reed Goodwin and his sister, Beva Grace Goodwin who married Willie D Frady. Franklin's parents are Reuben Jackson Ivie and Elizabeth Clarke Owen, and Reuben's parents are John Ivie and Elizabeth E P Wells. John's father was Franklin who supposedly came from Scotland. This family has been researched by others and what I have comes primarily from their searches.

My mother's side of the family are Brooks. Ernest Gordan Brooks married Lottie Lee Mabry. Ernest was called Buster by his friends and his father is Elvin Conrad Brooks who married Carrie Bennett VanLandingham. Elvin's father was John Marion Brooks who married Nannie Bird Allison. John's father is Julian Valmon Brooks whose wife's name is Arabella.

Carrie VanLandingham's parents are J B VanLandingham and Roxie Hunt, daughter of George W Hunt and Margaret Victoria Shelton. George's parents are Henry and Belinda Long Hunt. Margaret's parents are Jonathan Jehue Shelton and Amanda Lann/Land. George Hunt's sister, Susan Matilda Azalene Hunt married Carroll Anderson Dockery. Their daughter, Lee Azalene married Carter Landreth Mabry, the father of Lottie Lee Brooks.

Carter Landreth's father is Carter Mabry who married Margaret Underwood. His father is Benjamin Mabry who married Sally Thornton. His father is John Mabry Jr, son of John Mabry who married Mary Delk. John's father is George Mabry who m1 Sarah Williamson; m2 Martha Bradley and his father is Francis Maybury who came to Virginia by 1679; m 1685 Elizabeth Gilliam.
