1. George W. VANCE was born about 1828 in Virginia.^1,2 The 1860 census has his age as 30 which means he would have been born about 1830. It also says he was born in Virginia. Henderson Vance's death certificate gives his father's birthplace as Ohio, which is probably wrong. He lived in Gallia County, Ohio. He lived in Meigs County, Ohio.³ He died. David Vance's father and George Vance may have been related.

George W. VANCE and Mary Ann ROWLAND were married about 1850. They appeared in the census in 1860 in Morgan Twp., Gallia County, Ohio.⁴ They appeared in the census in 1870 in Morgan Twp., Gallia County, Ohio.⁵ They appeared in the census in 1880 in Morgan Twp., Gallia County, Ohio.⁶ George's household had a servant according to the 1880 census named Rosa B. Coy, white female, 16, single, servant, born Ohio, father born Ohio, mother born Ohio. Mary Ann ROWLAND was born about 1830 in Ohio.^2,7 The 1860 census has her age as 27 which means she would have been born about 1833. She died. George W. VANCE and Mary Ann ROWLAND had the following children:
