About the Franklin TownshipThe Franklin Township is located in 32N - 33N Range 14 - 15 West in Laclede County. This township is on the borders the Washington, Osage and Gasconade Townships of Laclede County and Wright County. The main communities are as follows:

The 1889 Laclede History reflects the following:Competition or Newburg On the Gasconade River, twenty-two miles southeast of Lebanon, has a general store kept by Mr. Wolf, and a drug store kept by Dr. Wright; a school-house and Masonic hall; a saw and gristmill by William Bowman, and a blacksmith shop. Newburg Lodge, A. F. & A. M., was organized early in the seventies, and still continues. |

Joseph Wilson Family - about 1899 This photo is of the Joseph Wilson family in front of their home in the Franklin Township taken about 1899. Starting from the left is Joseph Wilson, then son Jodie, then son John, and then Joseph's wife Malinda Sing. Joseph Wilson's parents were Thomas Allen Wilson and Sarah Eveline Hall. Thomas and Sarah were married in 1867. Thomas was a country doctor and farmer in the Delto area. Sarah (Hall) Wilson was buried in the Hough Cemetery.
Thomas Allen Wilson's parents were Allen Green Wilson and Elizabeth Askins who were living in Laclede County by 1850.
Elizabeth Askins' parents were Presley Askins and Mary Finch who had move to Laclede County by 1848.
Malinda Sing's parents were John Sing and Elizabeth "Betty" Brooks.
John Sing's
parents were Benjamin Sing and Malinda Crews who came to
Camden and Laclede County from Tennessee. Benjamin was born in South
Carolina and Malinda was born in Knox County, Tennessee. Elizabeth
is buried in the Old Salem Cemetery. John Sing's second wife was
Alice Docia Gourley. John is believed to be buried in Conway.
Thomas Allen Wilson,
along with Joseph and Malinda (Sing) Wilson, moved to Lamar
County, Texsas by 1900.
