Samuel Jefferson Crowley and Nancy Jane Sutfin

Samuel Jefferson Crowley was born 26 Sep 1846 and died 20 Sep 1882 in Greene County. He was the son of Wiley Crowley and Lucy Capps. His father died when Samuel was very young, and by 1850, Lucy had remarried to Dr. Thomas J. Mellon.Dr Mellon, along with his business partner, Phillip King Lester, were Swamp Land Agents for the government. Dr. Mellon died in 1862 from sickness he developed while being a Captain of the "Bloody 7th." He was around 40 years old.
From a letter written by Wilson C. Nelson Lester, brother of Phillip King Lester, we learn that Capt Mellon was sick Jan 18 1862 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and has been for two weeks.
Wiley Crowley was born in Kentucky in 1803, the fourth son of Benjamin Crowley II and Catherine Annie Wiley. Both of them came from Virginia and later moved to Georgia with their families. On 15 Dec 1795 Benjamin wed Catherine Wiley in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Benjamin was the oldest son of Benjamin Crowley I, son of Jeffrey Crowley and Sarah Strong, daughter of William Strong. Catherine was the daughter of Peter Wiley, son of John and Catherine Chambers Wiley, and Mary Sharkey, daughter of Patrick and Ann Sharkey of Botetourt County, Virginia.
Samuel was a farmer and in 1870 he was listed as building a water mill on the census. Sometime around 1865, Samuel married Nancy Jane Sutfin, daughter of Jacob Sutfin and Sarah Pevehouse. She was born 4 Jul 1846 and died Sep 1889. She having been a resident of Greene County her entire life. Jacob Sutfin was born in Tennessee, and along with his brother Lewis and Jonathon, moved to Lawrence and Greene Counties in Arkansas. Jacob was the Greene County Coroner 1833-35.

Samuel and Nancy had the following children:
1. Benjamin (ca 1867- bef 1870) not 100% sure on this
2. William Thomas (28 Aug 1868- 23 Mar 1939) who married Cynthia Gramling and had: Nancy Elizabeth, Josephine, Ruth Mayme, Thomas Jefferson, Mary R., Daniel, Bessie, Eula, Richard Thaddeus and James Wiley.

3. Wiley Jasper (30 Oct 1870- ?) who married Viney J. Sims
4. John Louis (5 Jan 1874- 20 Jul 1943) who married 1) Missouri Elizabeth Robertson and had: Lela May, Willie, Lena Pearl, Selma Virginia, Delcie Jane, Opal, Nannie Belle and Johnnie Bertha. He married 2) Myrtle Gramling and had: Lewis Dwight.

5. James Benjamin (1875- ca 1923) who married Emma Phillps and had: Roscoe, Benjamin Harrison, Charlotte and Marion.
6. Lucy Virginia (16 Sep 1879- 3 Mar 1919) who married George A. Gramling and had: Estes Garvin, Carlos E., Agnes M., Jeff and Joe.
7. Sarah Jane (8 Mar 1882- 31 Dec 1968) who married John Welch Turpin and had: Una, Thelma, William Lucian and Ruby.
