John Welch Turpin was born 22 Sep 1878 at Ravenden Springs, Randolph County, Arkansas, the son of James George Turpin and Dicey Davidson. James was a native of Virginia, the son of George N. Turpin and Elizabeth Bishop of Pittsylvania County. Dicey was the daughter of William Wood Davidson and Malissa Jane Barker of Benton County, Tennessee. John Welch died 28 Jan 1955 in Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas. He is buried at Warren's Chapel Cemetery at Walcott, Greene County, Arkansas.
Sarah Jane Crowley was born 8 Mar 1882 at Walcott, Greene County, Arkansas, the daughter of Samuel Jefferson Crowley and Nancy Jane Sutfin. Both were natives of Greene County. Samuel Jefferson Crowley was the son of Wiley Crowley and Lucy Capps Mellon (see their house). Nancy Jane Sutfin was the daughter of Jacob Sutfin and Sarah Pevehouse who were married in Lawrence County, Arkansas 29 May 1834. Sarah Jane Crowley died 31 Dec 1968 at Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas, and is buried next to her husband at Warren's Chapel Cemetery at Walcott. She is buried within sight of her parents and grandmother Lucy Capps Crowley Mellon. Her other grandparents, the Sutfins are buried at Shiloh Cemetery located at Crowley's Ridge State Park.
John, who went by Welch Turpin, married Sarah Jane Crowley 15 Nov 1900 in Greene County. They were the parents of 4 children:
1) Eunice "Una" Turpin (6 Nov 1901 - May 1985) married Tom Howard and had Willard, Ben Wiley, Wilma and Javine.
2) William Lucian Turpin (1 Jun 1909 - 25 Jul 1990) married Juanita Wood and had Billy Mack, Glen Edward and Sammy Charles.
3) Thelma Phyllis Turpin (22 Apr 1911 - 29 Jul 1995) married Richard Jeffrey Thomason and had Kay Frances.

4) Ruby Turpin (6 Sep 1912 - 29 Apr 1999) married Claud Alfred Hyde and had Fondel Jane, Jasper Welch, Shirley Wynell, Phyllis Jane, Ruby Claudette, Orville Gene and Ricky Lee Hyde.
