GEORGE CROSSNORE was born about 1750. Nothing is known about his parents or origins. It is probable he immigrated to the United States from somewhere in Europe. Family lore suggests he may have been German. The Crossno surname is found in various spellings throughout Europe, including Germany, Poland, Italy, and Russia. In Poland, the surname is spelled "KROSNO". There is said to be a "Krosno" town, castle, glassworks factory, and family crest for this surname. Most, but not all, of the Crossnoe's living in the United States today are his descendants. There are some exceptions, namely later immigrants from the countries previously mentioned.
