Albert Augade was a graduate of the Paris Conservatory of Music and came to
Calgary in 1895
as a teacher of all string and reed instruments. He taught in his studio at
home, 802 - 8th Ave.
Albert Pioneered the musical development in Calgary. He conducted orchestras in
the Old Opera
House, Lyric Theatre, Grand Theatre and also many bands in Calgary.
In his day he was a prominent figure in Calgary musical circles.

But it is not only in music that Mr. Augade is qualified as leader. The last military uniform he wore was that of the second regiment of French Zouaves, with which he served his time, putting in five years in foreign service. He says the marching and hardships of the African service was harder than the actual war. He cites the instance of where a company of his regiment left Figier in the interior of Africa and started on a march for the coast. It was an 18 day's tramp in month of July. By the way the men dropped in the burning sands, suffering from sun stroke, heat prostration fever and all the ills that accompany desert travels. On the 18th day they reached their barracks at the coast - eight out of the full company made it - and Albert Augade was one of them.
