Peter and Mary on their wedding day 1 Aug 1934
A quote from a letter sent by Mary, Dec 1966 "Peter had so many interests besides his engineering - photography - gardening - music - angling & flytying - to say nothing of the repairs he did to this house & the way he stood up to me in every way - and his interest was no superficial one - book after book he would get to delve deeper into what ever interested him."
Mary was a school teacher and wife. In the early days of her teaching she would travel out to some of the islands to teach children who had no way of getting to a school. She was a great letter writer and kept in touch with all the family.
Mary was the one that greatly helped put the family-tree together. She would write letters to her cousins, read old grave stones and go down to the registers office of births and deaths to get the information.
Mary was very easy to get to know and very pleasant to visit with. She had a wealth of knowledge and experience.

The large stone house in the center of the picture is Garth Cottage, Lerwick
where Mary and Peter lived.
