It is, in turn, a transcript of an obituary published on December 19, 1913, in The Lovington Reporter, Lovington, Illinois.

Henry Conlin, a highly respected and well known citizen of this community passed away at the family home, 5 miles SW of here, Tuesday morning of this week, shortly past 12 o'clock. He had been confined to his bed for the past few weeks, suffering from a complication of diseases. Mr. Conlin arrived home about 5 weeks ago from Texas, where he had been looking after his land interests. He immediately became ill, gradually growing worse until the end came Tuesday morning.

Funeral services were held at St. Isidore's Catholic church which is located near the deceased's late residence. Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Father Davis, pastor of the church, officiated at high mass. The regular church choir furnished music, assisted by Alfonso Schuh of Bement. The pall bearers were William Smith, David Henneberry, Mosses Sherman, George P. Atherton, John Flevin and William Saivin. Interment was in St. Isidore's cemetery near the church.

Henry Conlin was born in the County of Louth, Ireland, Dec. 25, 1844 & died at his home 5 miles south west of Lovington, IL, Dec. 16, 1913, aged 68 yrs, 11mths & 21 days. When but a lad of 6 or 7 years he came to this country, the family locating in the state of Ohio. Mr. Conlin later located in Christian Co, IL, & about 43 years ago settled in the community south west of here, where he had since resided. He becamse actively engaged in farming & being a wide awake & energetic man was able to successfully battle with the odds that young men of his day were compelled to meet. As a result of his untiring efforts & good business judgement he acquired hundreds of broad fertile acres in this state & in Texas & a few years ago was able to retire from active business and spend the remainder of his days at ease.

On Jan. 19, 1872, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Reedy, who was a native of the Lake City neighborhood. The ceremony was in St. Isidore's Catholic church.

To this union 9 children were born, all of whom survive their father. They are Mrs Thomas Griffin, who resides south of here; Misses Katherine & Molly Conlin, who are at home; Mike Conlin, of near Bement; Nrs Dan Ryan of Carroll, IA; Harry, Thomas(, RLC) Ed & Miss Lulu Conlin, all at home. All were present at the funeral excepting Mrs. Ryan who resides i Iowa, she being unable to attend.

The mother preceded her husband to the Great Beyond eleven years ago.

Besides the grief stricken children, deceased leaves 2 brothers & one sister: Patrick Conlin who is confined in St. Mary's hospital, Decatur, Bryan Conlin, of Dalton City, & Mrs. John Bresnan (Catherine Conlin, RLC) of Lake Charles, LA; countless number of friends.

Deceased had been a life long & faithful member of St. Isidore's Catholic church and was a ready contributor to any worthy cause. He was a kind father & a good neighbor & was held in high esteem by all who knew him.

Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Jacob Frey & Mrs. Thomas Frey of Chicago; Mrs. & mrs. Marcus & Milton Tabor of Bement. The funeral was largely attended.

For the past 2 years of the deceased's retired life, the home farm has been operated by his three youngest sons - Harry, Thomas and Ed Conlin.
