Bob was too young to join the armed forces during WWI, although he tried
by lying about his age. (Family oral history stated that he was actually born in
1901, although his daughter's birth certificate showed his birth year as 1900.)
Because of his poor vision and age, he was turned down when he tried to join the armed
forces again during WWII. He worked as a civilian employee for the Navy during WWII
on Treasure Island in the Oakland, California Bay area, an assignment he took so seriously
that he refused to tell anyone what he had done for the Navy. |

Robert Louis CRAWFORD's wife, Catherine WHITTEN, who said that Robert Benjamin CRAWFORD
and Carrie KELLY had seven children, but three died young. |
