Parish of Union | Randolph Curlee and Lucinda Curlee his
wife of the Parish and State aforesaid has
granted bargained sold and by their presents does grant bar
gain and sell transfer and deliver unto Philemon Whilhite
V-H C Rose of Jackson Parish and David Cork of the Parish
& State aforesaid The following described Track or parcel of
Land in the aforesaid Parish & State to wit the South west
quarter of north East quarter of Section No nineteen and
the north west quarter of the north East quarter of Section
No nineteen in Township No nineteen of Range no one west
containing eighty acres and Seventy-four hundredths Acres more
or less - together with all the improvements and buildings _____
or thereunto belonging for and in Consideration of the sum of

NOTE: Phileman Wilhite owned one of the stores in Downsville, and the
stage coaches used his store for their rest stop. They also left
mail and messages for people in the area. In 1851, Wilhite made
application to the United States Post Office Department for
permission to establish a post office in his store. The post
office was established on June 9, 1851. The post office was dis-
continued on Sept 3, 1879, but reestablished two months later on
Nov 17, 1879. The post office operated until 1925 when the first
post office building was constructed. In 1956 a new post office

R M Curlee { A D 1865 Between Martha W Kendall of the first
Part, and Randolph Curlee of the second part, witnesseth,
that for and in consideration of the sum of two Hundred
dollars in hand to him paid the receipt Whereof is hereby
acknowledged: the said Martha W. Kendall doth grant
bargain and sell and by Those presence hath granted
bargained and sold Unto the aforesaid, party of the second
and unto his heirs and assigns, forever, A track of
land described as follows, viz: The S.W. gr of the N.E qr
of Section No 19 Township No 19 of Range one West, containing Forty
acres & sixty two hundredths 40 62/100 & the NW gr of the N E qr of Section
