ADAM ELROD JR. - WILL
Rowan Co. NC
(husband of Eleanor R. Cooper
son of Adam Sr. and Rachel Winscott/Wainscott Elrod)

In the name of God, Amen. I, Adam Elrod, of the state of N.C.,
Rowan County, being now in low state of health but perfect mind and memory,
thanks be given unto God, now calling to mind the mortality of my body and
knowing that it is appointed for all persons once to die, do make and ordain
this my last will and testament; that is to say, principally and first of all,
I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of my Almighty God that gave it, and
my body to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion
of my executors, nothing doubting that at the general resurrection I shall
receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly
estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give,
devise and dispose of the same in the manner and form:

First: I leave two tracts of land lying in Stokes County to be sold
and a negro girl I named Anna and as much of the rest of my personal estate as
will pay all my just debts.

Then I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elender Elrod, my dwell-
ing plantation and all my stock of all kinds, and all my household and kitchen
furniture and all my property of all sorts to my beloved wife, Elender Elrod,
for her use as long as she remains my widow; then, at her marriage, she is to
have or possess the third of my personal estate; then, I give and bequeath to
my two beloved sons, John Elrod and Jacob Elrod, my dwelling plantation and
tract of land to be equally divided between them and if I should have another
heir and it is a son, I leave and bequeath to him an equal part of the land
with the other two. Then, as my children come of age my beloved wife, Elender,
is to give to them, as she sees proper. THen, at the death of my beloved wife
all my property and its increase is to be sold and equally divided amongst all
		my beloved children.

I likewise constitute, make and ordain my beloved wife, Elender
Elrod, my sole executor of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby
disannul all and every other will and testament, ratifying and confirming
this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th
		day of June, 1816.

Signed and sealed in the presence of:

		Witnesses:
		George McKnight Adam X Elrod
		William Douthit
