ALBERT PETERSON'S FUNERAL
The funeral of Albert Peterson, the particulars of whose sad and untimely death we recorded last week, occurred last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Lutheran church. An exceptionally large crowd turned out to pay their last tribute to the lamented dead, many finding it impossible to gain admittance to the church. The casket was completely covered with beautiful floral offerings; the most notable designs were a harp and a pillow of rarest flowers, which were sent from Chicago that morning. The remains were interred in the Lutheran cemetery. Parents: Jonas Peter PETERSON and Ingrid Stina SKÖLD.

Spouse: Ida M. LARSON. Albert PETERSON and Ida M. LARSON were married on 9 Jun 1886 in Orion, IL. The wedding announcement in The Orion Times (June 11, 1886) gave the follwing description:

A large audience of friends and spectators were in attendance, and the church was gayly decorated with flowers and brightly illuminated. At precisely 7 o'clock the bridal party entered, and the large pipe organ struck up a lively march. Mr. Oscar Larson and Miss Lena Eastburg, Mr. Anton Anderson and Miss Mary Asplund, and Mr. Lundstrom and Miss Anne Larson acted as groomsmen and bridesmaids. The bride looked the image of grace and beauty in a white satin trosseau (sic) with a boquet (sic) of roses on her bosom. The groom was becomingly attired in a neat black dress suit. The happy couple are two of our best known and highly respected young people. After the ceremony the invited guests, of whom there were many from abroad, partook of an elegant feast at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Larson, parents of the bride, where the newly married couple were the recipients of mant beautiful and costly presents. The festivities werecontinued with much enjoyment until after midnight. We wish Mr. and Mrs. Peterson long life and happimess galore.

Ironically, Albert was dead within a month's time. Family oral history relates that at the wedding ceremony a dove circled over the groom's head. Since that time the family considers birds in buildings to be a bad omen.

Augustus PETERSON355,356 was born on 1 Jan 1850 in Västra Ryd, Östergötland, Sweden.1,356,357 This date is found on church records in Sweden. The date 1849 appears on his headstone and Jan. 1, 1849 is cited in his obituary. He was born at Damstugen in Storang. His first entry in church records in Andover, Il show his birth year first written as 1850, then written over as 1849. From this time on his birthyear is incorrectly given as 1849. He was baptized on 6 Jan 1850 in Västra Ryd, Östergötland, Sweden.357 He immigrated on 22 Apr 1852.358 This is the date the family left Vastra Ryd for America. The register of Swedish immigrants shows that they arrived in New York on August 26, 1852 on the "Carlos". HE appears as "Pehr", age 2. His catalog number is 71:71:1224. He lived in Henry County, IL after 1852. He resided with his parents in Millersburg, Andover, and Swedona (Berlin) until 1870. The Swedona records show he left on February 2, 1870 for Kansas. However, church records in Orion, Il show he arrived there in 1870 from Swedona (Berlin)! He was confirmed on 4 Jun 1865 in Andover, Il.359 He lived in Swedona, Il between 1867 and 1870.360 Church records from Swedona indicate he left for Kansas on February 4, 1870. He lived in Orion, IL between 1870 and 1878. Church records show he left for Nebraska on April 22, 1878. Yet the available records on Violet (b. 1881) and Robert Alton (b. 1885) show birthplaces as Illinois. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Buffalo County, Nebraska.361 He is a farmer, age 32, in Divide Township. He is residing with his wife, age 32, and four children - Mabel, age 8, at school; Robt. E., age 7, at school; Merrel F., age 5; Mauritz age 2. He lived in Kearney, Nebraska between 1885 and 1895.66 This span of years is based on birthplaces for Violet (Henry Co, IL) and Pearl (Kearney, NE) as cited in their obituaries. However, the family appears on the 1880 Nebraska Census. Perhaps, Violet was born in Nebraska, or was born in IL while the family resided in Nebraska. He lived in Waterloo, Iowa after 1895. This date comes from obituaries. He lived Ainsborough Avenue and Black Hawk Road in Waterloo, Iowa in 1921.355 They moved to Waterloo in 1895. Pearl's dughter was not born until 1930). When August died in 1932 there were 6 grandchildren (with Pearl's daughter now born one of the others must have died) and 3 great-grandchildren. The story of Carl's death and the emigration of his widow and children is apparently well-known in Kongseryd. It is told that the parish collected money to provide Samuel Magnus with pants for his journey. This tale and other tales during the difficult period of 1868-69 are told each year in a play called "Nödåret" (The Year of Famine).

The date given on the Clerical Records in Hult is confirmed in information on the 1910 Illinois Census for Henry County. His son, Johan, appears as a head of household with his mother "Anna C. Meline", age 86. Anna has been in her 2nd marriage for 42 years, she immigrated in 1868. It can be assumed that when Carl died c. 1868; she came to the US to be with her eldest son, Johan.
