Carrie Ivey Albrittons Obituary from Union Church, Lily, Florida
Transcribed by Spessard Stone
Introduction: Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Ivey, daughter of Francis A. Ivey, was born September 11, 1854. On February 9, 1871, she married Oliver Asbury Albritton, son of Thomas H. and Frances (Waldron) Albritton. He was born December 2, 1849 and died November 1, 1917. Carrie died October 27, 1929. They are buried in Lily Cemetery, Hardee County, Florida.
Without warning Aunt Carrie Ivey Albritton fell asleep in the arms of Jesus Oct. 27th 1929. She was born in Polk Co. on Alafia River Sept. 11th 1854. She was married to O. A. Albritton at Nocatee, Manatee Co. Feb. 9th 1871 and united with the Pine Level, Mount Pleasant Church in 1874, later moving her membership to Union Church, Lily.
Aunt Carrie was of the oldest pioneer citizens of this country. She was a devoted wife and mother, loyal to her church and always ready to lend a helping hand to those in sorrow and distress.
She would not live always, she asked not to stay where storm after storm rises dark over the way. The few lurid mornings that dawned on her here are full enough for lifes woes, full enough for its cheer. She would not live always away from her God where the saints of all ages in harmony meets: and the smiles of the Lord are the feast of the soul.
Aunt Carrie leaves to mourn her death eight children, Mrs. Edna V. Roberts, Mrs. Jessie Whidden, Mrs. Mammie Davis, Eugene, Alfred, Rev. Elmer A., J. Edgar, and Delos. Also one sister, Mrs. Mary Albritton of Limestone, and other relatives and a host of friends.
Resolved that we as a church do most sincerely deplore her loss; that we extend to her loved ones our heartfelt sympathy in this their time of sorrow and bereavement. That we pray Gods richest blessings of peace and comfort upon them that they may live in this life so as to meet their loved ones who have gone on before.
Resolved 2nd that a record of this be placed on the church books. Also a copy be sent to the Florida Baptist Witness.
She's gone but not forgotten,
Her form lies neath the sod,
Her soul has gone to heaven,
To ever dwell with God.
Respectfully submitted,
Mrs. W. N. Duncan
Mrs. A. O. Barnes
Mrs. E. W. Jones
