James Blaine Hendry




James Blaine Hendry, son of James Madison Hendry and Martha Frances (Wingate) Hendry, was born November 24, 1902, Sandy, Manatee County, Florida; died March 12, 1992, Sebring, Florida; cremated. Jim and Louise, his first wife, lived in the Bare Beach area, Clewiston, Florida. He was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for about ten years. After working two years in the machine shop of the state prison farm in LaBelle, Florida, he went into self-employment as "James B. Hendry Salvage," in which business he bought and sold automobiles "as is" and parts.

"Jim" had four wives, one of whom he married twice. He married (1) Dec. 11, 1933 Mary Louise Cowan, born Aug. 29, 1909; died April 10, 1969, Lantana, Fla.; (2) in Palm Beach Co., Fla. in June 1969 Nealie (Geiger) Bennett, born ca. 1923, daughter of Tom Geiger; divorced early autumn 1969; (3) Feb. 6, 1970 Carolyn Young Hill, born Nov. 6, 1940, DeSoto Co., Fla., div. Oct. 8, 1974; (4) Sept. 29, 1975 Carolyn Young Hill, div. Feb. 5, 1977. While married to Carolyn, he lived at Clewiston and Fort Windner in DeSoto County, and after their divorces at 708 East Palmetto Street, Wauchula. He was, however, living with Carolyn at the time of his death. Carolyn, a LPN, in 2002 was employed in a nursing home, "The Oaks," in Avon Park, Florida.
