Calvin Eugene Hendry, son of James Madison Hendry and Mary Jane (Payne) Hendry, was born January 14, 1877, New Zion community, Manatee (now Hardee) County, Florida; died May 6, 1946, Tampa, Florida. On December 30, 1909, probably in DeSoto County, Florida, Gene (as he was known) married Mary Ethel Hull, daughter of Artemus F. and Sarah (Bulloch) Hull. Ethel was born March 15, 1890, DeSoto County, Florida and died September 5, 1924. She suffered from mental illness. They are buried in New Zion Cemetery, Ona, Florida.
C. Eugene Hendry was a schoolteacher, salesman, and Baptist minister. In the pulpit, he combined preaching sand singing, and a sermon could go on for several hours.

1. Wilbur Artemus Hendry, born 23 Mar 1911, DeSoto Co., FL; died 14 Mar 1997, Bradenton, FL; buried Bethany Cemetery, Myakka City, FL; married in Manatee Co., FL 10 May 1981 Mrs. Mamie B. Peters, daughter of Arminda Mink and William Dawson Peters. Mamie Hendry, SS # 262-48-8397, was born 10 Jul 1909; Sarasota, FL; died 2 Feb 1993, Sarasota, FL. No issue. Her obit had Mamie B. Hendry was survived by her husband Wilbur Hendry. She had been married previously to a Mr. Shirling in Sarasota. No issue. She is buried in Tatum Ridge Cemetery.
2. Marian Eugene Hendry, born Nov. 16, 1912, DeSoto Co., Fla.; married on Oct. 23, 1932 Zeddie Taylor, born Sarasota, Fla. No issue. They divorced. She took a nursing course, but had a mental breakdown and was confined to various mental institutions for most of her life. She is believed to have predeceased Wilbur in Washington, D.C.
