Harold W. Cowsert, 72, Mayor of the City of Rosiclare, passed away Saturday evening, July 5, 2008, at Pope County Care Center in Golconda where he had been receiving physical therapy.
Harold was born October 25, 1935, in Hardin County, the son of Frank Cowsert and Opal (Milligan) Cowsert.
Harold was united in marriage to Ruby Lewis on June 9, 1956. To this union, two children were born: Cynthia Ann and Darrell Wayne. Harold’s wife Ruby passed away November 9, 1989.
Harold married the former Donna H. Damron on November 11, 1995. Harold and Donna made their home in Rosiclare and served the citizens of that city. Donna survives.
Harold retired from Reynolds Aluminum in Chicago and then from Ozark-Mahoning in Rosiclare where he worked in the field on a core drill and then in the mill. He also worked for the Department of natural Resources at the Dixon Springs State Park. For a short time, he delivered meals to homebound residents of Hardin County and for the Golden Circle Senior Citizens Center.
Harold was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the General Baptist Church in Rosiclare.
During his time as Mayor, Harold was instrumental in getting the city water system updated, obtained grants to rejuvenate the old pharmacy building on Main Street and turn it into a visitors center, and secured funding to build the river walk. He worked diligently to bring the Dollar General store to Rosiclare.
Harold was honored this past October to serve as Grand Marshal of the Fluorspar Festival parade.
Surviving are his wife, Donna R. Cowsert of Rosiclare; daughter, Cindy Swallows of Ojai, CA; son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Sandra Cowsert of Golconda; four grandchildren - Melanie Trattner and husband Glenn of Torrance, CA, Josh Swallows of Ojai, CA, Delany Cowsert and Destaney Cowsert of Golconda; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Ruby Trattner and Lila Rose Trattner of Torrance, CA; step-son and daughter-in-law Joey and Carolyn Dutton of Cave in Rock; step-grandchildren Jonathan Dutton, Victoria Dutton, and Ian Dutton of Cave in Rock; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Elva and Earl Wilson of Shawneetown, Fran Hickrod of Carpentersville, and Mary Cook of Shawneetown; brothers and sister-in-law, Frank “Bud” Cowsert, Jr. and Olga Cowsert of Powder Springs, GA, Larry Cowsert of Effingham; several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Opal Cowsert; wife, Ruby; and son-in-law, Larry Swallows.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare. Funderal services for Harold will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Hosick Funderal Home in Rosiclare. Rev. Gary Hardesty will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Elizabethtown.

HELPER-Our beloved wife, mother and sweet grandmother Ruth Naoma Stone Heino, age 76, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, June 27, 2008 while surrounded by her loving family at her home in Helper.
She was born Feb. 10, 1932 in West Frankfort, Ill. the seventh of eight children to Clyde and Della Mae Cowsert Stone. In 1949 at the age of 18 Ruth came to Utah where she met her sweetheart. Elmer S. Heino and Ruth were married Feb. 10, 1951 where they spent 13 years in Latuda, Utah. The remainder of Ruth and Elmer's 57 married years were shared in Helper.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and her greatest joy came from serving her family. She was an active member of Price Chapel, and she loved the Lord and serving him. Through the years Ruth helped support many and encouraged those who were striving to conquer their own battles with cancer. She was a wonderful cook, loved to garden, read her Bible, play old gospel hymns on her piano, and she especially looked forward to camping and fishing with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Elmer S. Heino, Helper; daughter, Sherri (Steve) Henderson, Battle Ground, Wash.; sons, Scott (Sue) Heino, Bob (Jaylene) Heino, both of Price; grandchildren, Cristen, Ryan, Sky, Seth, Scott, Joshua, Jessica, Ashley, Justin, Brittney, Jeremy and Shaylee; brothers and sister, Bob (Irma) Stone, Jack (Patsy) Stone, Gladys Wright, sister-in-law, Ruby Stone, all of West Frankfort, Ill.; sister, Jewell Davis, Price; and special niece, Linda (Bob) Howa, Price.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Eva; brothers, Baine and Gene Stone.
Funeral service, Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday.
Services for Mrs. Clara L. McDaniel, 87, Stroud, will be at 2 p.m. today in Stroud Christian Church.
The Rev. Duane Cowen, pastor, will officiate.
Interment will be in Stroud Cemetary directed by Curry Funeral Home of Stroud.
Mrs. McDaniel died Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Born July 14, 1895, at Stroud, she lived about half her life there.
Mrs. McDaniel spent her early years in Stroud, lived in California and Oregon for a long period, then returned to Stroud a number of years ago.
She was married to Lucien D. McDaniel September 16, 1913, at Chandler. He died in 1971.
Two children, a son, Aaron McDaniel, and a daughter, Minnie Lee Cowsert, are also deceased.
Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Stroud Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Noland (sic - Nolan) McDaniel, Castro Valley, Calif., Clifford McDaniel, Midland, Tex., and Donald McDaniel, San Francisco, Calif; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Flood, Stroud, Mrs. June Gill, Colfax, Calif., Mrs. Betty Schumacher and Mrs. Verna Pratt, both of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Rex Stone, Stroud; two sisters, Mrs. Verna Traw, Stroud, and Mrs. Blance Price, Lubbock, Tex.; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Age 87, of Hemet, has gone to glory, Tuesday, November 3, 2009.
Born to Mike and Notra [Stokes] Gill on Thursday, February 12, 1922 in Santa Ana, California.
Robert proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army. He worked, among other things, as a bus driver for Placer County Unified School District for 15 years.
Robert was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Toy Train Collectors. He served as Mayor Pro-Tem of Colfax, California, as well as a member of the City Council for Colfax.
Robert was also an active member of the Hemet Valley Christian Church. He had a brilliant mind and invented many different things. He loved working with wood and built many miniature airplanes. He was an avid train and airplane collector.
Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robert Franklin Gill, Jr. Robert is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 67 years June Gill; his loving daughter, Elaine LaFontaine and her husband, Al of Fullerton; daughter-in-law Martha Dow of La Mirada; grandchildren Michael, Matthew, Amanda, and Ryan; and his brother LeRoy Gill of Lakeport.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Hemet Valley Christian Church in Hemet. Interment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery at a later date.
Robert touched many lives and he will be truly missed by all who knew him and who loved him.
