THE VILLAGE OF BALLYMAGORRY,
LECKPATRICK PARISH, CO TYRONE
RENTALS, VALUATIONS ETC 1666 –
1858
Ballymagorry lies 5 kms north of Strabane on the Derry Road in
North
Tyrone and has been a settlement since Plantation times, being founded
in the early seventeenth century by Scotsman Sir George Hamilton of
Greenlaw (died c1654), brother to James, 1st Earl of Abercorn. Within
two generations his lands had been consolidated into the Manor of
Cloghogall within the extensive Abercorn estate.
Most fortunately, a number of useful eighteenth century rent rolls and
valuations have survived for Ballymagorry. The Abercorn Papers form a
very large collection in PRONI, Belfast that includes title deeds,
rentals, accounts and correspondence relating to the Tyrone and Donegal
estates from the early seventeenth century. The following data has been
extracted from LDS films; researchers should check the comprehensive
Family History Library catalogue for a complete listing of this
microfilmed archive.

not, for she says, with reason I think, that they are bad neighbours:
she would willingly have a separate one.
