Ex-Wayne Woman Commits Suicide
Mrs. Nellie Munsey, age 24 years, former Wayne county woman, commited suicide by shooting herself Sunday afternoon while standing in front of the residence of her father-in-law, Tom Munsey, fromer Wayne countian, at his home at 1219 Madison Ave., Huntington, where she had gone to see her three small children.
Mrs. Munsey is a daughter of the late Wade Powers, who used to live at the Mouth of Big Creek in this county and who made his home with Taylor Ross on Wilson's Creek untill his death about 2 years ago. Mrs. Mrs. Taylor Ross is a daughter of Powers and a sister of Mrs. Munsey. Mrs. Munsey was the wife of Everett Munsey, son of Tom Munsey, former Wayne countian who now lives in Huntington.
A divorce suit filed by her husband, Everett Munsey, Jr., was to have been called Monday in domestic relation court at Huntington according to her relatives. Despondancy over domestic troubles was given as the motive for suicide. Munsey is working with the railroad extra force.
Mrs. Munsey resided with her mother, Mrs. Ida Powers, 1644 Madison Ave. since she and her husband seperated about a year ago. At that time they were living in Lundale, and Munsey brought their children, three to seven years old, to the home of his parents in West Huntington where they had since been kept.
Leaving a family gathering at the home of a sister, Mrs. Edward Sharp, 928 Eighteenth St., West, about 2 o'clock, Mrs. Munsey returned home, got a 38 caliber revolver and went to the Munsey Residence. The children were on the porch with their grandmother, according to witnesses. The youngest daughter, Thelma, five years old, was sitting on her grandmother's lap, with an arm around her neck. Mrs. Munsey asked the child to come out to the walk and hug her.
The child got down, but stood still.
Mrs. Munsey then unwrapped the pistol, which was carried in a newspaper, and placing the muzzle near her heart, fired.
She died an hour later at the Guthrie Hospital without ever regaining consciousness.
