John Higgins was a resident of Lawrence County when he appeared in the first tax list of 1818 in Union Twnshp. The first election of Mason Twnshp was held in his home, where he and son Thomas were among the voters.

Born mid 1700's, he had obtained 500 acres of land in Greenbrier County, Virginia (West Virginia), in 1800, and appears in the GreenbrierCounty Order Book for 1778. He had returned hostages from the Indian village at Portsmouth to their families along the Virginia frontier. He and wife, Margaret Dennison, were married in Greenbrier County. They were in Cabell County when daughter Margaret was born and continued there until 1814 before moving to Lawrence County.

Children included: 1.Elizabeth b. abt.1803, m. Sinkler Pettry in 1818 in Union Twshp by Joel Bowen. 2.Nancy b.abt.1800 m. Valentine Sampson in 1821. 3.John A. Higgins b. abt.1804 m. Sarah Payne, Mar.29,1829. He resided in Mason twshp in 1840, in Elizabeth twshp in 1850-60, in Perry twshp in 1870, and at Aid twshp in 1880. His occupations included farmer, laborer, and charcoaler. 4.James Higgins married Delores De(O)dridge April 12,1824. 5.MARGARET HIGGINS (1811-1900) married JAMES CORN (1808-1900) on Dec.18,1829. Their children were: John, Charlotte, Nancy, William, Margaret, Hannah, James A.,George W., Frances M., Jessie who married Louisa Doddridge, Marthya, Sarah, Elizabeth, Harrison, and Richard. 6.Thomas Higgins (1814-1904) m. Hannah CORN (1813-1881)Mar.20,1834. Their children were: Dolly,Margaret, John W.,James D.,Lucinda, Reuben, Emily, Sarah and Clark. Margaret and Thomas Higgins were married to James and Hannah CORN respectively, both sets, brothers and sisters.

Thomas Higgins and Hannah were the parents of Clark.C. Higgins who married Martha Jane Whitrock. Clark and Margaret Jane were the parents of: Lillie, Thomas, Myrtie, Oakley, Carl, Flossie, and Blanche Higgins. JESSE CORN, son of JAMES & MARGARET HIGGINS CORN was father of John A.C. CORN who married florence Holroyd. John and Florence were the parents of Frankie Corn who married William Brammer.
